"Ever since the ’80s Tarifa has been the European windsports capital. Unbelievable wind statistics and a relaxed lifestyle have encouraged countless wind junkies to settle in what was once just a small Andalucían fishing village. Anecdotally, there are more windsurf and kite shops in a 10km strip than in some entire countries north of the Alps. The easterly Levante and westerly Poniente take turns blasting through the region, and thanks to the Strait of Gibraltar’s text-book venturi effect it’s windy at least 250 days a year.
